The Cheapest Places to Buy Name Brand Breads
Have you seen the price of bread lately? Ouch!
Inflation has caused the cost of the main ingredients used to make bread — eggs and flour — to increase dramatically, and the price of a usually affordable pantry staple is now at record highs. Some grocery stores are charging as much as $10 for a 2-pound loaf of artisan breads and other premium options.
On a recent trip to some salvage grocery stores in Asheville, NC, I was amazed to find a large selection of Pepperidge Farm breads on sale for $1.28. The hot dog buns and rye bread that I recently purchased for $4.99 each at my local grocery store were on the shelf for only $1.28! In fact, all of the Pepperidge Farm breads that they had (and it was a large variety) were only $1.28 each — and they weren't even past their best-by dates.
Not all salvage grocery stores sell breads, but there are a lot of Bakery Outlet Stores located throughout the country where you can find name brand breads for 50% — and sometimes as much as 75% — less than you'd pay at a regular grocery store. Many of these stores also sell bagels, pies, cookies, snack cakes and other baked goods — all at highly reduced prices.

Buy Brand Name Bread Cheap at Dollar Tree Stores
Dollar Tree stores sell brand name breads such as Thomas', Sara Lee and Orowheat. The low prices that you'll find at Dollar Tree stores are about the same as those you'd find at a salvage grocery store for a wide selection of name brand breads, bagels, tortillas and other baked goods. It's always a good idea to stock up when you find something you like, since it might not be available the next time you visit the store. If it’s close to the best-by date, you can store it in your freezer (see Fighting Food Waste with your Freezer for tips on freezing foods).
